Location: Charlotte, NC
Style: Frank Lloyd Wright Inspired
Brief:
Determine Paint Colors & Finishes for existing stucco and trim that are current but in keeping with the style and materials of the existing facade.
This seems simple, but driving around any area you may see otherwise. Exterior color choices can be a difficult challenge. Understanding the resources available, architectural style and conditions of the site all come into play when making current an exterior facade.
With this building we had some interesting elements and angles with which to play. The stucco had been subject to numerous renditions of color through the years, from warm to dark. White exteriors were the prevailing trend but would not feel at home. We wanted to unearth the right fit for the building. One that felt natural with respect for the varied tones of the stone, making it by default timeless. First, we established an ideal neutral for the stucco. To address the exterior trim and ceilings we created a soft but strong contrast with a rich dark neutral tone. With this simple transformation an interesting facade receives timeless appeal and communicates the quality of experience inside.
